Start Boating - Keelboat

Keelboats offer more space and stability than dinghies and catamarans while still making great boats all sorts of activities like trips or racing for people who like to keep (relativley) dry.

What is it about?
Keelboats are open sailing boats. Because they have a heavy keel underneath the boat they do not capsize. Able to accommodate move people keelboats allow you to sail with a number of other people.  This, exciting performance is why keelboats now make up some of the biggest and most active racing fleets in ireland.

Try it out
The “Taste of Sailing” Course run by many ISA Training Centres provides the perfect way to get into a Keelboat and go sailing for the first time.

What you will need?
The ISA Training centre where you do your course will provide all of the equipment you need.  A few warm layers and a sun hat and a willingness to get stuck in is usually all that is needed.

Find a club
Joining a club is a great way to meet people you enjoy doing the same things as you. Your local sailing club will provide the perfect place to practice your new skills as well as take part in all the sailing and social activities.  Many clubs will have boats available for use by beginners. Click here for a list of Keelboat Training Courses.
