Eve McMahon Nominated for Young World Sailor of the Year
Olympian Eve McMahon has been nominated by World Sailing for Female Young World Sailor of the Year at the World Sailing Awards which take place in Singapore on the 5th of November this year.
Eve, who is based out of Howth Yacht Club in North Dublin, won back-to-back Under 21 World Championships in her class in 2023/24 and represented Team Ireland at the Paris 2024 Olympics this summer. She is currently ranked 12th in the world.
Early in 2024, Eve qualified Ireland for the Paris 2024 Olympic Games at the ILCA 6 World Championships in Argentina, becoming the youngest Irish female to ever achieve this feat. At the Games in Marseille, she competed as one of the youngest sailors in a highly competitive 43-boat fleet. She finished an outstanding 13th overall and was the youngest competitor in the top 20. McMahon was also Team Ireland's Olympic Torch Bearer when the torch landed in Marseille earlier this year. She achieved all this whilst studying for her Bachelor of Science in International Commerce at University College Dublin.
Eve’s nomination is part of two new awards making their debut with World Sailing celebrating the rising stars of our sport. Voting for all World Sailing Awards is currently open and everyone who loves sailing is invited to help decide the winners. Voting closes at 23:00 GMT on Sunday 27 October.
The public vote will make up 50% of the final decisions with 50% contributed by World Sailing’s expert panels.
Voting is now closed, but make sure to tune in at 12pm Irish Time on our socials and @worldsailing to see how eve is getting on!
This year’s awards will be presented at a live ceremony on Tuesday 5 November at CHIJMES Hall, Singapore and you can see the full list of nominees HERE
