FOUR IRISH YOUTH SAILORS COMPETING AT 2024 OPTIMIST WORLDS IN ARGENTINA
The 2024 Optimist World Championship will take place in Mar del Plata, Argentina from 5 - 15 December and four sailors are representing Ireland, having qualified for the event at the Irish Sailing Youth Nationals earlier this year.
Pictured are Max O’Hare (RStGYC), sisters Lily and Maeve Donagh (RStGYC/LDYC) and Patrick Fegan (MYC/RStGYC) who will be competing at the event supported by their Argentinian coach, Ignacio (Nacho) Varisco, and Argentinian team leader, Maria Gil.
Over 50 countries are set to participate with a total of 227 sailors. The Irish sailors have enjoyed preparing for the championship all season and have participated in a number of international events in preparation, including the British Nationals held in Plas Heli, Wales in August. They are very proud to be representing their country at this prestigious event and are really looking forward to embarking on this wonderful adventure. We wish them all the best in Argentina!
