With a full house, Galway Bay Sailing Club in Oranmore transpired to be a wonderful backdrop for the 2024 Irish Sailing Race Officials Conference.
The speakers delivered content on several topics relevant to race management and event management within an ever-changing environment. From the increase in the use of robotic marks in race management across the globe, through to the upcoming amendments contained in the Racing Rules of Sailing (RRS) coming into force during January 2025. These were just some of the many subjects up for discussion.
The was also significant focus on safety requirements within our sport and the continuing need to ensure appropriate and qualified personnel are attracted to every facet of race management. This discussion is very much ‘live’ and continues to be ongoing to ensure appropriate standards are achieved and maintained to meet demand.
Irish Sailing President, John Twomey thanked all those who took the time to attend and reiterated that without volunteers, the sport would simply not exist in the current structured format.
Special thanks must go to the team at Galway Bay Sailing Club who left no stone unturned to ensure the smooth running of the conference. Their recently refurbished club house and outdoor facilities showcased the very best of what a volunteer led sailing club can achieve to benefit the entire sailing community.
Renewed thanks to all those who attended and the next conference is scheduled to take place during 2026 which is pencilled in to take place in Kinsale, Co. Cork.
