TRAINING IN 2024

Irish Sailing Training 2024

For the second year in a row the weather didn’t make life easy for Clubs and Training Centres around the country but despite this everyone involved rolled up their sleeves and got stuck in to make the best of it with plenty of activity all around the country. Interest in training courses remains strong with powerboat training showing a small increase on 2023, modules from the upper levels of the Small Boat Sailing Scheme at the same level as last year and numbers participating in Cruising Courses continuing to increase.

The entry level modules of the Small Boat Sailing Scheme have seen a small decrease in numbers and identifying ways to keep encouraging newcomers into our sports will be a priority for next year with initiatives such as a refreshed Try Sailing programme, revised presentation of the offerings on our website and support for a wider range of programming options for the training syllabi.

Another important area of focus for the coming year will be the underpinning of training standards delivered through Irish Sailing Clubs and Training Centres, this will be done thought the development of additional resource materials for participants and instructors, a review of the instructor assessment and training standards by Irish Sailing Instructor Trainers and the adoption of a Club Training Officer on Club Committees to champion the role of training in the ongoing development of our clubs.

Before signing off for the year it’s important to say a huge thanks to all the Volunteers, Instructors, Coaches, Senior Instructors, Junior Organisers, Training Officers, Centre principals, Instructor Trainers and everyone else involved in making this happen and helping so many new people get involved and stay involved in the sports we all love

Wishing you all a very Happy Christmas and a wonderful 2025.
