MG's Club of the Year 2025

Royal Irish Yacht Club Named MG Motor Club of the Year 2025

The Royal Irish Yacht Club has been awarded the prestigious title of MG Motors Club of the Year 2025. This well-deserved recognition comes after an exceptionally successful summer of events hosted by the Club.

In September alone, the Royal Irish hosted the ICRA Nationals, J109 Europeans, and IRC Europeans. The Club also achieved numerous accolades throughout the year, including the fastest Irish boat in the 2024 SSE Renewables Round Ireland Race, Pete Smyth’s Ker 46 Searcher. Additionally, the Club claimed the Roy Family Trophy at the National Yacht Club’s Women at the Helm event and saw Barry Cunningham’s Chimeara win the Class 1 Overall title at Volvo Cork Week.

This marks the Royal Irish's second win of the ‘Club of the Year’ title, having previously received the honor in 2016. The informal annual competition, now in its 46th year, recognises clubs that demonstrate exceptional sailing achievements and community involvement. Nine years ago, then-Commodore Professor James Horan outlined the strategic policies that had been implemented to enhance the club's overall health and achievements, while continuing to meet the diverse maritime and social needs of its members.
