ICRA ROLLS OUT ROADSHOW SEEKING MEMBERS INPUT
Early 2025 marked the first in a series of planned ICRA (Irish Cruiser Racing Association) briefings, designed to capture the input from as many clubs as possible involved in cruiser racing to ensure that it remains alive and relevant over the coming years.
The opening briefing started with input from clubs in the South, while this week it was the turn of the clubs located in and around North Dublin Bay to outline what was happening on the ground in terms of their own cruiser racing activity.
Howth Yacht Club played host to the event which saw cruiser representation from Poolbeg YBC, Clontarf YC, Malahide YC, Skerries SC as well as the host club – Howth Yacht Club.
Brian Raftery, who is tasked with driving continual development of cruiser racing within the current Irish Cruiser Racing Association committee, outlined a myriad of ideas to drive activity. Many ideas were common sense while others highlighted innovative and clever concepts designed to attract additional boats and sailors to every club across the country. The final output from the exercise will form the basis of a ‘playbook’ which will focus on the learnings from all briefings.
The next scheduled briefing is for clubs based in the South Dublin Bay and into Wicklow and the proposed date will be communicated to the relevant current cruiser committee members in each club .
