Schull Hosts Local Race Officer Course For Clubs in the South West
The Fastnet Marine Outdoor Education Centre (FMOEC) opened its doors over the weekend to host an Irish Sailing Local Race Officer Course which also welcomed members from nearby clubs.
With 15 attendees from Bantry Bay SC, Tralee Bay SC, Schull Harbour SC and more, the content delivered was aimed to give a good working knowledge of not just therole and function of a good local race officer, but also highlighted the importance of key roles within the entire committee vessel team such as flag management, time keeping and results recorder.
Completion of this module for any member of Irish Sailing is a stepping stone towards full qualification as a Local Race officer for those who may wish to follow that path, while other volunteers attend to simply gain as a solid foundation before spending time building up real world experience as part of a wider race officer team on the water.
Thank you to Sinead Scully of the FMOEC for organising the course venue and Clinton Copthorne from Schull Harbour SC for helping to promote the importance of completing the content and ultimately raising greater awareness around efficient and safe race management at club level.
