INSTRUCTOR GLOSSARY
Pre-Entry Assessment - A one-day personal skills assessment to ensure your practical boat handling and background knowledge is up to standard to attend an instructor course.
Endorsement/ Upgrade - Developing your skills further by adding an endorsement to your instructorship.
eg. Advanced Instructor, Safety Boat Instructor, Senior Instructor etc.
Conversion - Attending a workshop as an instructor to quailfy yourself to another instructor discipline.
eg. dinghy, keelboat, catamaran, powerboat, windsurfing.
CPD/ Revalidation - Attending a workshop to renew your instructorship validation period.
Your first instructorship is valid for 3-years. Upgrades and Revalidations will revalidate instructorships for 5-years.
Revalidations are completed per discipline (SBSS, NPTS, Go Windsurfing).
By attending a Revalidation Workshop all your instructorships in that discipline will be revalidated for 5-years.
Scheme - A scheme is the specific activity type within the training programme.
eg. Small Boat Sailing Scheme, National Powerboat Training Scheme, Go Windsurfing Scheme, National Cruising Scheme.
Discipline - A particular programme within a training scheme.
eg. Dinghy, Keelboat, Catamaran disciplines within the SBSS.
